adidas Soccer revealed today the FC Bayern Munich home jersey for the 2017/18 season which draws inspiration from one of the most iconic shirts in the club’s history, a jersey worn by the likes of Franz Beckenbauer, Uli Hoeness and Gerd Müller in the successful period of the 1970s. During the Disco decade, Bayern won three of their now twenty seven German Bundesliga titles along with three UEFA European Cups (now the Champions League).
The Bayern München 2017-18 shirt is an even more classic and traditional look than this season’s. Closely inspired by the iconic 1974 shirt, it features four relatively thick white stripes on the front as well as one each sleeve. The collar and sleeve cuffs of the Bayern 17-18 home kit are also almost identical to those on the original.
A thick, black outline was added to the sponsor logo on the Bayern Munich 17-18 kit to ensure legibility. A white crew neck and white sleeve cuffs round off the traditional design of the Bayern Munich 2017-2018 jersey.
We were also German champions and many of the players from this team had also become World Cup winners in 1974,” recalled club president Uli Hoeneß, looking back on the great successes of his playing career.
“You have to feel comfortable in a kit. It has to have some connection to the club and give you a good feeling,” commented Thomas Müller, highlighting what he thinks is important in a kit. The retro aspect rounds off the new home jersey. “It obviously makes you think of the three league titles and the likes of Gerd Müller, Franz Beckenbauer, Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge,” added Müller.
